The Christmas cards have all been sent out, so I wanted to share our family newsletter and card here with you (the photos were taken by the fabulous Alecia Hoyt who now lives in Missouri, but was back visiting Hawaii, and I had the card custom-made on Etsy).
Seems like another year has come and gone, and more quickly than ever. It’s been a pretty quiet year out in the Kohala countryside, but full of adventures in work, family, relationships and parenting.
Nathan is now 20 months old, and surprises us every single day. He has quite a vocabulary and speaks very well for his age – he can count to 12 and is learning his ABC’s. We really have to watch what we say around him as he’s like a sponge – picking up and repeating everything we say. He loves to play and especially enjoys seeing his friends at church and at the Tutu & Me traveling pre-school we attend. Nathan loves sports – it’s no wonder his first real word (after dada and mama) was ball. He’s very coordinated and able to catch, throw and kick – our living room resembles more of a sports center with all the different kinds of balls he has. Usually the first thing out of his mouth in the morning is “mommy, play ping pong”.
I am privileged to stay at home with Nathan and while he keeps me on my toes, I also keep busy holding various church offices and planning events. At the beginning of the year I decided to participate in Project 365 and take at least 1 photo a day for the whole year and have had so much fun with it that I plan to do it again next year. I also I opened an Etsy shop online to sell some of my crafty creations. We recently made the decision to start trying for a second child so hopefully soon we’ll have some good news to share.
Roland continues to pastor the Kohala Seventh-day Adventist Church, working with the students at Kohala Mission School and serving as a US Army Chaplain. And he’s picked up a new hobby – riding motorcycles. After we sold our Isuzu Rodeo instead of purchasing another car he bought a 750cc Honda Shadow and has really enjoyed cruising the open roads and ministering to those who share his newfound passion.
Nathan is getting to be quite the traveler with lots of trip to Oahu to visit his grandparents, but we’ve also found time to visit Maui and Kauai this year. Roland traveled to Alaska to facilitate a Strong Bonds workshop with the Army and again to Samoa in October to provide relief efforts after the earthquake there.
As we look back on 2009 with all of it’s many adventures, we feel truly blessed and thank the Lord for all He has done for us. And to all our family and friends, thank you for loving and supporting us. We wish you a Merry Christmas – may your holidays be merry and bright, and may this new year bring you happiness, health and prosperity.

Happy Holidays!
